It is one thing to think you are doing well and another to know. Having measurements that are credible is important for getting the feedback we need to know we are doing well.

Our end of the year survey helps us do that. In this post, we reveal incredibly compelling results that we think reveal why you’ll want to work at Clevertech in 2023.




### 1. An increasing net promotion score?

While the net promoter score is typically used in marketing, we like to consider the net promotion of employees that would recommend Clevertech as a great place to work. A score of 30-69 would indicate that we have a staff that are happier than unhappy.

The formula for calculating a net promotion score involves the % promoters - % detractors = Net promotion score. In our case we use a 5 point scale on the survey. For % promoters we only count employees that score a 5 for recommending Clevertech. The % detractors is calculated by the employees that score 3 or less.

This year we scored a 76, even better than our score from 2021 {link to 2021 article}. It looks like we are getting better and better.



### 2. Remote work

Remote work continues to be the number one reason why people stay at Clevertech. Software engineers that choose to work at Clevertech value the freedom of working remotely. It’s no surprise that 92% agreed that they are able to arrange time out of work when they need to.

## The Pomodoro Method

# What led you to choose remote work with Clevertech?

For the past 5 years, I've been working for 100% remote companies as a software developer. There are a lot of remote software development companies nowadays, especially after the pandemic hit, but most of them are building the plane as they fly it! The main reason I made the decision to join Clevertech was the extensive company experience, truly 100% remote for more than 20 years. After more than one and a half years at Clevertech, I can say that I'm happy with the decision I made and look forward to a long professional career here. Working at Clevertech changed the way I look at problems, increased my productivity and gave me more freedom and free time. Especially impactful was the amazing leadership course CT provided to us for free! I like to say, "We can shape our futures by taking control of the way we communicate with others around us".  

# What does your typical work day look like?

- **7:00 to 8:00 am:** I usually wake up to the lovely noise of my kids playing around, they are my natural alarm clock. First thing in the morning I take a shot of turmeric, ginger and lemon. Then, I start grinding coffee while my wife prepares a healthy balanced breakfast.

- **8:00 to 9:00 am:** I read my social networks, check the news, play a little with the kids, take a shower, brush my teeth, and shave.

- **9:00 to 10:30 am:** Getting started to work, reading messages, emails, checking GitHub activities, eventually review some pull requests. Then, I start to plan my coding day and focus on my current task.

- **10:30 to 11:00 am:** I have a lovely stand up meeting with my project team. In the meantime, depending on the day, my older son goes to soccer practice or English class, and my wife works out.

- **11:00 to 12:00 pm:** Back to my original task, or sometimes switch to another one when the priorities are reviewed and changed during the stand up meeting.

- **12:00 to 2:00 pm:** My wife rings the lunch bell to call us to the table, she is becoming a great chef, following a nutritious guide to prepare healthy and tasty meals. I love to have my wife and kids at the table having lunch together. After lunch, I watch some local news and stay around with the kids until they get ready for school.

- **2:00 to 4:00 pm:** I make another fresh coffee and get back to work, this is the total focus moment where I usually make more progress in the coding. Every each other week, on Wednesdays and Thursdays, we have planning, grooming and review meetings at this time.

- **4:00 to 6:00 pm:** Usually, I take a short break, eat some snacks and take a walk in the neighborhood listening to music. Then, I return recharged to the coding issues.

- **6:00 to 8:00 pm:** My wife goes to pick up the kids at school, and I stay home coding. The first thing my older son does when he gets home is tries to scare me, so I pretend to get very scared. Then, we talk about his day, what he liked most at school. This happens usually at the table having dinner. After our dinner, I wrap up my work, commit and push any local changes I might have and document a pull request ready for review or in progress.

- **8:00 to 10:00 pm:** Time to slow down, usually I try watch documentaries with my wife and kids (they don't pay much attention, just stay playing around). We vary the topics from time to time, usually something between cosmology, astrophysics, astrobiology, earth, human body, finances, and comedy.

- **10:00 to 12:00 am:** Time to get fully recharged. Everyone takes a shower and gets ready for bed, the kids love to listen a story and in the end we give thanks for the day we had.

A Day in the Life of a Clevertech Dev: Davi Garcia

**What led you to choose remote work with Clevertech?** 

I have been working remotely for most of my career now and it has really helped improve the quality of my life by giving me more time with my family and allowing us to buy a bigger property away from the city. Clevertech just felt like a natural transition to me thanks to the amazing culture and fully remote mentality. 



**What does your typical work day look like?**

- **6-8am:** 
I wake up between 6:00 and 7:00, help get the kids ready for school, then feed the dog and then I have breakfast myself.


- **8-10am:** 
By 8 I have a fresh pot of tea ready and I’m planning my day by going through my emails, slack and list of active projects. Any task I can complete in a few minutes can be taken care of immediately but anything bigger is converted into an actionable item.


- **10-12am:** 
By 10 my standup is usually done and I have a good stretch of uninterrupted time ahead of me until lunch break.


- **12-1pm:**
I start my lunch break with a short run around our property with my dog (currently at ~2km, hoping to increase that to ~3km by end of year). Then I take a quick shower and eat lunch while checking unproductive stuff on my phone 😋


- **1-3pm:**
Another fresh teapot to start the afternoon, catching up on messages that might have come in during lunch break, then it’s back into flow state to get things done.


- **3-5pm:**
End of the afternoon is when I try to wrap things up. Most of my coworkers are 6 hours ahead of me so code reviews and QA often occur while I’m still sleeping in the morning. I want to make sure any issues I’ve fixed are ready for them to check. This is also a good time for me to do code reviews of my own.


- **5-7pm:**
After a good day at work it’s time to spend some time with the family and eat dinner.


- **7-9pm:**
We will usually have a “quiet” time with the kids somewhere between 7 and 8 (turning down the lights and reading, drawing or cleaning up, then it’s time for them to go to bed and the parents can finally catch a breath! 


- **9-11pm:**
What I do once the kids are asleep will vary from day to day but will usually involve working on a personal project, spending time with my spouse or gaming with my friends. Finally, I go to bed between 10 and 11, with the occasional slip into the later hours of the night 😉


 **Describe your work environment.**

My office is set up in a medium room with two large windows so I’ve got a lot of natural light coming in throughout the day. I’ve been using an electrical standup desk for a few years now and using the PDF I updated all my peripherals to go 100% wireless (mouse, keyboard and headset).


**What do you listen to while you work?**

I’m a big fan of the [Melodic Progressive channel](lhttps://www.di.fm/melodicprogressive) on di.fm these days.

**Aside from your phone and computer, name a gadget you can’t live without in your workspace:**

My standup desk has been a game changer for me. It makes transitioning from sitting to standing super easy and helps me do it on a more regular basis.

- Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience working with the following Azure Queue Storage, Event Hubs, Dat Lake, Cosmos DB, Data Factory and Databricks, Apache Spark, Microsoft Purview and Monitor.
- Experience working  ETL, Data Lakes, Data Warehousing concepts and methodologies
- Experience with Azure Databricks with Delta Live Tables and greatexpectations.io, Azure API Gateway with GraphQL
 will be advantageous.
- Knowledge of distributed systems and architectures
- Experience with data modelling and schema design
- Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar
